The Innumerable Anxieties is a series of large scale paintings that explores an invented middle ground residing between two extreme tenets of conduct: The Seven Deadly Sins and The Seven Heavenly Virtues. Representing neither good nor evil, Duegaw instead portrays himself, in various guises, as being motivated or influenced by fear and worry. Setting the series within the context of the circus allows the viewing audience to experience the potential perils, as in an actual circus, vicariously and without any risk of harm. However, though depicted in whimsical allegory, these images are in fact serious reflections of the growing unease within our society today.
